Today is the beginning of Lent and the theme for the Lenten Campaign in Kenya is United and Peaceful Kenya...the change I want to see. In his homily Fr. Robert told us that he believes that God has chosen the elections to be held during Lent (4th March) as this is a special season to return to the core of who we are and to be tested in our faith. He challenged all of us to go beyond tribe, party and class to be witnesses to our faith as one people living together in peace. I also have asked other Kenyans about the elections and most of them are saying that they believe the elections will be peaceful for the most part. There are editorials in the paper saying that Mr. Carson from the US State Department and the British High Commissioner, Christian Turner, should refrain from warning Kenyans that the person they elect for president could bring consequences such as sanctions to Kenya. One of the candidates, Uhuru Kenyatta, has been indicted by the International Criminal Court for alleged involvement in postelection violence in 2008. Wishing you all a very blessed Lenten season.
